What is a Rite?
A rite is the process/es and steps conducted in a religious ceremony or sacrament. There are 3 different types of Rites in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. These are, Individual Confession, Communal Celebration and General Absolution in a Communal Rite of Reconciliation. What is Individual Confession? Individual confession is one on one between you and the Priest. In most churches there is a room where people visit, to tell the Priest their sins. It is called a Reconciliation Room and looks like this>> This type of confession helps the Priest (who is representing Jesus) connect and understand your problems, because he can hear your voice and sometimes see your face. What is Communal Celebration? Communal Celebration is when the community gathers in the Church to pray and reflect on their sins together. They then have their own one-on-one time with a Priest, so that their sins can be forgiven. What is General Absolution in a Communal Rite of Reconciliation? This type of Reconciliation is very uncommon and is only used in special circumstances, such as war or an emergency in the city. During these emergencies, the community will gather together and think about their sins, by themselves. Then the Priest will bless and forgive everyone all at once.
